A film by Lee Burghard to change our stereotypes about sharks: they are not dangerous, but they are in danger.
This is a project I’ve been filming over the last several months in Palm Beach, FL. I’ve always been fascinated by sharks. Once I became a diver, I finally had the the opportunity to be in the water with these majestic animals. It was a very eye-opening experience, and I’ve found that sharks are nothing like what the media and hollywood makes them out to be.
Sharks are now facing a number of difficulties due to overfishing and the high demand of shark fin markets in Asia. The lack of proper fishing regulations and little public awareness about the problems surrounding sharks further contributes to all of this.
My hope for this video is to help change some of the public’s misunderstood beliefs about sharks, and show others the truth about their behavior towards humans based on my own experience as a diver. Very special thanks to Calypso Dive Charters, and Emerald Charters for giving myself and many other great friends, divers, and photographers such an amazing experience with these animals..
